The line-up for the National Feature Film Competition at this year’s highly anticipated
23rd Adana International Film Festival has been unveiled. Twelve films have been
selected to compete before the jury at the festival, which will take place from 19th-25th
September 2016. Within the official selection, six titles will world premiere and
another three have their Turkish premiere in Adana. A further five films stand out as
directorial debuts.
Among the competition titles, Erhan Tuncer’s debut film, Ağustos Böcekleri ve
Karıncalar (Cicadas and Ants), will world premiere in Adana. Another first film is
Mehmet Can Mertoğlu’s Albüm (Album), which screened in the International Critics’
Week section of the 69th Cannes Film Festival and came away with the France 4
Visionary Award. Album will have its Turkish premiere in competition at Adana. Firsttime director Kıvanç Sezer’s feature, Babamın Kanatları (My Father’s Wings), world
premiered in the main competition of the 52nd Karlovy Vary Film Festival this year,
but will be shown in Turkey for the first time in Adana. More titles that will world
premiere in the competition include Handan Öztürk’s Bana Git De (Tell Me to Go)
and Hiner Saleem’s Dar Elbise (Tight Dress). So, too, is Çağdaş Çağrı’s debut film,
Geçmiş (The Past). İftarlık Gazoz (61!), the latest offering from director Yüksel
Aksu, ranks among the other official selections. Director Reha Erdem’s Koca Dünya
(Big Big World) was selected to compete in the Horizons section of the upcoming 73rd
Venice Film Festival, but will have its Turkish premiere in Adana. Mehmet Salih, the
debut film by Güven Beklen, will also world premiere during the festival. Director
Çağan Irmak is another familiar name in the competition line-up with his latest
feature, Nadide Hayat (A Unique Life). Derviş Zaim’s Rüya (Dream), on the other
hand, joins the list of titles set to world premiere during the competition. This brings
us to the final official selection for the competition, which is the Cemil Ağacıkoğlu
directed feature, Tarla (The Field).
The competition entry judged Best Film will win a cash prize of TL 350,000. This
year, total prize money of TL 840,000 will be awarded across all the festival
competitions.
