Welcome to Plant Swap
Plant Swap
June 2011
Save money, enhance biodiversity
Welcome to Plant Swap Plant Swap is a ‘virtual’ give & take scheme for the collegiate University. You don’t have to actually swap. You can take items even if you have nothing to donate. Items can include plants, seeds, gardening tools, wellingtons and any other gardening equipment. Plant Swap is managed by the University’s Sustainability Team: [email protected] How do I advertise on Plant Swap? First you need to be on the Plant Swap mailing list. To do this, email: [email protected] Then all you need to do is send a description of the item you want to advertise, with your full contact details to: [email protected] When someone has taken your item, email [email protected] so that it can be taken off Swap Shop (don’t forget to tell Kate which dept took your item). How does Plant Swap benefit you? •

Saves you money – no need to buy new items Biodiversity – encourages gardening which in turn creates habitat for wildlife Saves time – Plant Swap puts you in direct contact with the donor Reduces waste – reusing items is better than sending them to landfill where they generate methane emissions (a greenhouse gas 23 times more potent than carbon dioxide) IMPORTANT NOTE • Departments and colleges must arrange their own delivery/collection arrangements • In the spirit of protecting biodiversity and reducing pollution, Plant Swap does not accept harmful chemicals or peat products (eg: pesticides or sacks of peat compost) Scroll down to see lovely items available…! Aim: to set up a co‐op to produce beautiful rare breed pork & bacon (meat which has been produced with loving care). The cooperative would share set up costs, care of animals and benefit from the meat produced and profits of selling on young stock – it’s also a good way for people to meet, without becoming pig farmers! The driving force behind this idea is Paula, who is on top of the legal side of things and has attended smallholder training at Berkshire College of Agriculture. As we're not up and running yet there's plenty of scope to find out more without obligation, and to help shape the direction the cooperative takes!
